Halibut

Halibut is a a very good  choice in fish. Although the texture appears very meaty, in fact it is a lean fish and it tastes delicious. Furthermore, it maintains high nutritional content while still being relatively low in fat. A fairly typical serving measures about 160 grams or around 5.6 oz. and only has 5 grams of fat and 223 calories.

Cold water fish like Halibut are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.  There are 3 types; α-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They are known as essential fatty acids, because they can not be made by our bodies, so humans must obtain them from food. In fact, fish do not synthesize them either, they obtain them from eating algae. As a result, significant differences may exist between farmed and wild fish.  Omega-3 fatty acids have been associated with
lowering relative risk of death from cardiovascular causes by 25% or more. It is recommended to intake 250 mg of EPA + DHA per day. A 5.6 ounce serving of Halibut has 740 mg of EPA + DHA.
